The train’s passage was made possible thanks to previous negotiations among the Iranian Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister Miad Salehi, the Managing Director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways and the managing director of Kazakhstan Railways, aimed at activating the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran (KTI) transit corridor, that continues to Turkey and Europe.
Before those officials, the presidents of Iran and Kazakhstan had in two summit meetings agreed on the basics of the macroscale project.
The length of the international railway is 6,336 kilometers, of which some 3,185 kilometers are in Kazakhstan, 700 kilometers in Turkmenistan, 1,517 kilometers in Iran, and 934 kilometers in Turkey.
